Domestic Career Of Julio Cesar

Julio CesarJulio Cesar from QPR is considered to the one of the best goalkeepers in the world today and in a career that started in the year 1997 and is still going strong. It all started with the club Flamengo who identified the potential in Julio Cesar and picked him into their club. From the year 1997 to 2001 he was the reserve goalkeeper of the club, but during these years he was able to get the confidence of the Rossoneri and by 2001 he became the first choice goalkeeper for the Flamengo.

He was associated with Flamengo until the year 2004 and in the year 2005 was let off and he moved to Chievo in Italy. During the six months there, he hardly was able to get a game and then came the major announcement from Julio Cesar that he has signed a three year contract with Inter. It is with Inter that he gained his confidence back and started to improve as a goalkeeper and was awarded with a lot of laurels. He stayed on with Inter till 2012 and then announced a four year deal with the Queens Park Rangers. Julio Cesar from QPR is now in the English Premier League rubbing shoulder with some of the best footballers in the world.

International Career Of Julio Cesar

  • The international career of Julio Cesar started in 2003 when he was drafted into the team as a backup goalkeeper to Dida. He also travelled with the Brazil team to the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup, but did not play.
  • His debut for the Brazilian team came during the Copa America in 2004. He was the first choice goalkeeper for the team as Dida has opted out of the tournament and Brazil won the tournament beating Argentina 4-2 in the final which was decided by a penalty shootout.
  • Till 2007, Julio Cesar was the reserve keeper and only had 7 international caps during that period.
  • After the retirement of Dida, the race for the first choice keeper began between Heurelho Gomes,Helton, Doni and Julio Cesar. It was in September 2007 when Julio Cesar became the first choice goalkeeper of the Brazil team.
  • His controversial miss in the 2010 World Cup quarter final match against Netherlands that led to Brazil being ousted out of the tournament led to him being dropped from the team.
  • But with good performances of Julios Cesar from QPR in the Premier League, he has been recalled to the Brazil national squad.
